We were thrilled to be the Décor Sponsors for the Mural Arts Program’s Wall Ball 2011. Although the evening of June 1st was humid and windy (thanks to the tornado warning and storms that have been blowing through the last few weeks!) we still had an amazing time designing (and attending!) the event.
The Mural Arts Program “unites artists and communities through a collaborative process routed in the traditions of mural-making, to create art that transforms public spaces and individual lives.” It was created in 1984 in response to the graffiti problem that seemed to be overtaking the city. The mayor hired muralist Jane Golden to reach out to graffiti artists and help them to join her in constructive mural painting instead of destructive graffitiing. The program was very successful, and Mural Arts Program has created over 3,000 murals and earned Philadelphia the name “The City of Murals.” Not only are the murals beautiful, and not only do they add beauty and color into our neighborhoods, but they also encourage collaboration, respect and expression amongst members of our community. It’s such an amazing organization that has had an amazing impact on Philadelphia. You should definitely check out their website to learn more.
Every year, the Mural Arts Program throws a fabulous fundraising event and this year they chose the Piazza as their party location! (Which was great for us as it’s right across the street from our studio.) Murals are often so colorful and bold, so we knew we wanted to play up color and use bright, bold hues within the décor design. With this in mind, we designed two entrance pieces that used stacked paint cans with flowers spilling out of them.
We used a color block theme for the outdoor space in the Piazza with bright lime, aqua and purple linens & décor. For the tables, we incorporated paintbrushes and flowers to create a fun and unique centerpieces.
We also were excited to do the décor for the sponsor party at the Tendenza. We kept the designs simple and clean. We loved this piece we created for each of the chef stations (Marc Vetri and Georges Perrier who make the most delicious food.) We also created a sponsor lounge outside using white furniture accented with bright colored pillows from our color palette. We loved how it turned out.
Even with the weather (it seemed dangerously close to storming for a good part of the afternoon!) we had a fabulous time! We loved working with the other sponsors, Cescaphe Event Group and Cashman and Associates. Mural Arts Program is such a great organization and we’re so glad we got to be a part of such an amazing night. Enjoy this link from JJ’s Magic Photo Booth.
