A Destination Wedding–The Preparations.

A year ago, almost to the day, Beautiful Blooms Events was lucky enough to put together a beautiful destination wedding on Cumberland Island for an amazing Bride and Groom. (Check out the first post Donna did about the preparations for the 5-day event!)

Cumberland Island is a gorgeous, remote island off the coast of Georgia. It’s 18 miles of warm sand and clear water surrounded by luscious plants, flowers, and, of course, palm trees.

There’s a lot that goes into preparing for an event like this! Donna O’Brien was on site the entire weekend and she took some great pictures of the set-ups from her camera. The final product was gorgeous. The dinners, rehearsal dinner, and wedding itself had a unique feel that truly represented the Bride and Groom as a couple and the rich history of the Bride’s family. We are so excited to share the photos from the event! But first, we wanted to show some of Donna’s pictures to let you in on some of the behind-the-scene’s action that took place to create such a beautiful wedding weekend.

Since the island is so remote, everything used for the weekend was flown in. Most of the items we needed arrived by ferry. One of the main ways to get to Cumberland Island is by a small ferry (And when I say small, I mean it. The ferry can fit two cars at most and only 30 people!) so a private barge was used in order to transport all of the rentals and items for the event.

There were many different locations across the island for the events. Make sure to keep your eye out for pictures from the rehearsal dinner, Lulu’s café, the Cantina and the Tent Village in a post in the next few days (Are you excited? You should be!)

We spent some time during the Wedding weekend riding around the island so we could set up all the different locations. It was absolutely beautiful! We were provided with many different vehicles to get from one spot to the next. We had such a great time and were able to see so much of the island!

The beach seemed endless—and the water was right at our feet as we prepared for the rehearsal dinner. Donna visited the island in preparation for the wedding, and on one of her previous visits, she walked along the sandy beach and collected shells (which were returned to the ocean once their wedding duties were done) and driftwood in order to incorporate parts of the native land into the rehearsal dinner décor. Cumberland Island’s shores are home to many sea turtles, and in late May, the turtles start their mating season, so we had to be very aware of our location and careful not to disturb the animals during the evening.

We loved incorporating native flowers and foliage for the event. The family has spent a lot of time on the island and wanted most of the flowers to be native, so on the day of the wedding, we went out in the early morning and cut fresh magnolia and rich green leaves to use for the day.

We worked hand in hand with the Bride’s parents in order to set up seating arrangements and make sure that the Wedding was the best Wedding it could possibly be (and it was breathtaking).

Lucy Buffet, sister of Jimmy Buffet and Owner of Lulu’s at Homeport Marina, brought an extension of her famous Alabama restaurant to Cumberland Island for the guests. They served delicious food and drinks throughout the days and it really looked fabulous.

We were lucky enough to work with some amazing vendors including the Film Crew of Terry and Sam . Here they are, working hard!

We were so happy to be working with Cynthia, Deb Connor, the wonderful Event Producer (on the far left), and Deborah.

There was so much that went into this Wedding Weekend extravaganza (that’s only the tip of the iceberg!) and it was amazing to be a part of. Look out for the next increment of this event in the next few days. We’ll feature photos by the talented Alan Weiner that feature the many dinners, parties, and, best of all, the Wedding, in all their glory.
