Beautiful Blooms is always willing to head anywhere for a wedding or an event and I was thrilled that we were asked to work on this destination wedding on an American Coastal Island. Since the wedding is a very private event for one of “America’s Royalty” families…I can’t reveal all the specifics but that will come after the wedding.
When Deb Connor called me up one day and asked me to be the decorator for this wedding I said of course! I had not talked to Deb in a few years and she told me that she moved her company to San Miguel, Mexico and had been asked to help coordinate this 4 day wedding for the family. This family was very good friends with her and their daughter was getting married.
A few weeks later, the family flew me down to our location and picked me up in their private 5 seater plane. This was a first for me and I was a bit nervous but as soon as I saw Dave’s face I knew I’d be safe. There is no landing strip on the island so we landed on a grass strip amongst wild horses and large birds. A few times we’ve had to circle around because the horses just wouldn’t move. This whole event was one wild ride but I loved it!

Deb coordinated a meeting on the island with all of the vendors involved to talk about all of the initial logistical issues that could happen when working on such a remote island. Everything has to be brought onto the island as there are no stores..not a one. The only thing here is an Inn and a lot of land! It truly is a magical place.
I returned about a month later to the island and again we had several vendor meetings to iron out even more logistics. At that point, I also sat down with the bride and her mother and spoke about flowers and the overall feel. My client grew up on this island and they wanted to use everything on the island and fly in only a few non-local flowers. I knew this would be challenging but I am always up for a challenge.
Now that I have given you some background on the wedding we will move forward into the present day. I arrived on Saturday afternoon, May 22 here on the island and was excited that the big weekend was almost upon us. Now I am going to start my journal of the week so that you can get a glimpse into all of the work that goes into such a large event.
Day One-Saturday
I arrived, unpacked and headed straight for the large patch of grass outside the Inn where the tent was going up. The tent is a gorgeous 8 peak top tent.

Here’s a shot of the tent from above taken from the small plane. The tent was just going up and looked gorgeous before we even did anything to it.

There were 4 poles placed around the center of the dance floor and all of these were draped in beautiful soft white fabric.

This was wild to watch as two of the tent guys crawled up the side of the tent to place a “Wales” Flag and a “Scotland” Flag in honor of the Groom and his family.

Now the tent guys are almost at the top of the tent and I was holding my breath hoping they wouldn’t fall through but obviously only experts were hired so nothing to worry about.

Here’s another photo of the tent placed just outside the “Inn”.

The whole team at Beachview Tent Rentals were amazing to work with on this Wedding. Just amazing.

Our client lives much of the year in Mexico so they had several metal stars and I thought they would work perfectly over the dance floor. We hung them and then added light inside of them for an extra glow. We also did a white dance floor (which you will see later) as I just felt it would work best for the look we were trying to achieve.

The grid had to be created first to string the stars from and the power had to be run along the grid.

The stars really looked gorgeous in the ceiling of the tent. It would be like dancing under the stars at night.
All of this took up most of day one. Stay Tuned for Day Two!
