Sherman Mills Wedding: Abbey and Jake-October 17, 2009-Part One

Abbey and her mom have been long time friends of Beautiful Blooms.  I met them both at one of the first bridal shows that I did in Pennsylvania about 6 years ago.  The Flour Pot cookie company is their mother and daughter business and we have worked with them a lot over the years. Their long time friends The Rosens of Leslie Rosen Catering were asked to caterer Abbey and Jake’s wedding.

Abbey and Jake choose to work with Leapfrog Photography and all of these images were supplied by them.

Jake and Abbey met at a mutual friend’s party in ’05.  He was living in New York city and Abbey was in Philly, so they did long distance for almost two years.  Jake moved down to Philly so he and Abbey could be together and he proposed a year later.

One morning Jake woke Abbey up and she opened her eyes and he was holding a ring.  There wasn’t a big song or dance, but it was just the two of us, in our home.  For us, it was perfect.  His sister later told Abbey that she asked Jake why he wanted to propose first thing in the morning.  He told her “because that’s when I love Abbey the most.”

Abbey and Jake love to entertain at home, so the wedding was like the best party they could ever throw for their friends.  Amazing food.  Music that they could get down-to.  And décor that everyone said “oh, that’s so ‘Abbey and Jake’”

When Abbey came to us she had her venue choosen which was the unique raw space of Sherman Mills in Manyunk. Sharon Moore and her team at Moore Events were responsible for the space rental and the exclusive lighting vendor. We worked with them on the look we wanted to achieve on the lighting, draping, hanging of panels and plants.

Abbey and Jake’s challenge to us was to make the large venue feel warm and inviting. They also wanted each area of the day (ceremony, cocktails, reception and dancing) to have its own feel and to be welcoming.  The dinner would be a variety of stations with no assigned seating for the upscale cocktail party feel.

The day started with Abbey getting ready at the hotel. As we know not only is choosing the right dress important to brides but also finding the right shoes. Great job Abbey these are gorgeous.

Margie Greenberg, the bride’s mother, came in to take a quick peak at all the bouquets. She loved them!

We created all of the bridal flowers from a combination of yellow and orange flowers. We incorporated tulips and cattelaya orchids into the bride’s bouquet.

The Groom’s boutonniere was created from the perfect orange ranunculus with looped bear grass.

a_aj-w-0027We purchased bolts of all different fabrics including muslin and created panels of fabric to create sections within Sherman Mills. They were the perfect hiding place for Abbey until she was ready to meet her groom.

The bride and groom and their families relax and take photos prior to the ceremony. We created this lounge area in the dancing room and accented it with A LOT of orange, yellow and green lanterns.
