Moorestown Garden Club Speaking Engagement

By Donna on January 20, 2010 | 7 Comments

Last year I got a call from the Moorestown Garden Club asking me to speak at their January meeting  and of course I said yes!  I couldn’t believe it when January arrived this year and it was almost show time.

Their facility was beautiful and the people incredible. Not only were they a dream to work with but the group of 50+ was truly interested in my presentation and my demonstrations.

I started out with a power point presentation to show them all that we do at Beautiful Blooms! One of the events that I featured was Glamorous Cities which was a Bat Mitzvah we showcased here on our blog.  They loved all the different arrangements that were made as each table represented a different city.  On this same day, I also found out that a Bridal Magazine in Ireland was going to be featuring several of the images of the centerpieces as they loved them so much.  Lots of exciting things happened yesterday.

I don’t remember what I was describing but it had to be good. Look at the intensity on my face!

The group intensely watched as I spoke but I have to say I had an absolute blast with these woman. We laughed together and they asked questions and listened intently.

Everyone loved this beautiful ESPERANCE rose. It is so beautiful and the petal count is high so it really has a luxurious couture feel to it. I showed the women how to reflex the petals to make the head seem even larger.

Here I began to show everyone how to make this spiral line arrangement with the ESPERANCE roses.  I love this silver “birch” container. It is one of our favorites.

I then moved onto making a “Hand Tied for the Home” arrangement. This is actually one of our featured workshops that we offer at the Beautiful Blooms Boutique. Our new workshop schedule will be posted shortly!  I used a mix of hydrangea, heather, ESPERANCE roses, spray roses, fern and phlox.

I also demonstrated the hand wiring technique with a succulent. I love these and we often feature them in our bridal work and also sell them at the Boutique.

Now for a more modern very tall piece where a black ceramic vase and black bamboo were used.  Bamboo and water tubes were spray painted black to match the bamboo. We secured them on the sticks with blue OASIS wire and then filled all of the water tubes with light blue and bright blue delphinium. The woman who won this arrangement in the raffle was thrilled!

I loved speaking with both of these woman. They were really sweet and the woman on the left was planning her wedding. She was really excited and I look forward to speaking with her when she gets her dress and chooses her venue.  The story of how they met was wonderful and I wish them much happiness.

Next was the dome vase spun with metal OASIS wire. We combined blue wire and stones with orange callas for a contrasting color palette.  The group loved this look!

Special thanks to Ryan Estes for coming to the meeting and taking all of these photos! I know Ryan sure learnt a lot that he could take home and share with his family. :) Thanks again Ryan.

Our last arrangement was the moss handbag. I showed it in our power point presentation and everyone ooh’d and aah’d!

The winner of this beauty got to take buttons home too so that they could finish decorating the ribbon.

I really enjoyed this speaking engagement and can’t wait for my next one. Many of the woman told me they wanted to come and take some of our workshops at the Beautiful Blooms Boutique and I can’t wait to see them there!

Thank you Moorestown Garden Club! Hope to see you again soon.

Oh my. These are beautiful! I love flowers and I am really interested with gardening. So with flower arranging.

It was fun because YOU are fun! I’m stealing the bamboo idea for our church which is very modern and has a very high ceiling. I’ll make sure to say hello to you and your Mum at the Flower Show although I don’t have to hold your hand as Cathy wanted me to do last year. These photos are magnificent!

I am a member of the Moorestown Garden Club. I loved your presentation! I was also lucky enough to win one of your fabulous arrangements! I won the one with the lilies on the outside of the container. I have managed to keep it alive for four days by misting the flowers each day. I am really enjoying the beauty and creativity of this arrangement. I would also be interested in taking some of your classes. Would it be possible to receive a schedule of the upcoming classes? Thanks so much for a very interesting and informative afternoon. I thouroughly enjoyed you and the program!

I loved your presentation and was glad I got to be there for it. I won the moss purse :) Even my daughters seemed interested when I had it for our “centerpiece”. It made us feel like Spring!!
