My friend Rosemary, who I have now known for over 17 years has been talking about me meeting Sylvia Weinstock for quite a while. I have always been a fan of Sylvia’s because I love the way she and her team execute those icing flowers to look exactly like really flowers. What a talent! Rosemary has known Sylvia for a while so we finally (Kendall and I) decided to head to New York City to meet the amazing and talented cake baker and decorator that began the whole sugar flower craze 30 years ago.

Sylvia brought out her cake and cake filling tray for us to sample. This is what she presents to potential clients at their first meeting with her. All I can say is yummy! All of the flavors were just amazing but I think I might like the apricot the best and the vanilla cake. Maybe I need to go back and try some more…..Sylvia I’m coming back. Here is Kendall (with the fork in her mouth) and Rosemary sampling all the flavors.

We went into her studio and saw the girls at work making all of the flowers…Here are some amazing peonies…one of my favorite flowers..whether it be in sugar or fresh. You can also see the girls at work making several other flowers. It is a very labor intensive job but the end result is outstanding.

Here is a photo of Sylvia when she first started. She is still the best and it is so true that you get what you pay for. So many people have tried to imitate her but her talent is just incredible. She is not only talented but she truly believes in her product and she produces cakes that are incredibly beautiful and also so tasty. She told us she had just done J.Lo’s 40th birthday cake this past Saturday. Wow!

Thanks so much to my new friend Sylvia for taking time out of her very busy schedule to talk to us. You are the best. Thank you to Rosemary too for arranging this wonderful meeting.
That sounds like so much fun!!
